7th site successfully certified: PHW headquarters with superb sustainability-management

Since 2012 six German WIESENHOF production sites have been certified gradually by independent certification auditors by the ZNU-Standard „Nachhaltiger Wirtschaften“. Recently, the headquarters in Rechterfeld have also been certified, which highlights the superior sustainability performance of the family-owned enterprise.

“We keep following our motto ,We must never stop getting better’ and will continue investing in further sustainability activities. The responsible and sustainable shaping of our future is and will be our guiding principle”, says Katrin Metschies, head of sustainability management within the PHW-Group.

“The audit consists of different parts. Among continuous improvements in animal welfare, the audit also takes a look at resource-saving work practice. When it comes to packaging, we also received positive feedback from the auditors due to our critical view of the level of utilization as well as recycling features of established and alternative materials. Another aspect covers innovative environmental technologies, but also quality and trainee management as well as operational safety, fire protection and health management. Furthermore, the commitment and implementation of the 100% climate-neutral operation of all our German WIESENHOF sites for chicken, turkey and sausage production within the project ,ZNU goes Zero’ has been taken into account for the evaluation” Katrin Metschies states.

During spring 2020, the latest sustainability report has been released as well. The second sustainability report follows the 2017 report. Similar as in the previous report, the focus is set to poultry specialities including up- and downstream activities. However, the latest report also takes a closer look on the Alternative Protein sector. The report can be downloaded here.
